How to use this teaching resource

  • Keep at this size or reduce in size for the children to Author and Illustrate as a Mother’s Day Card.
  • Enlarge the ‘Thank You Mum’ book into a class size A3 or A4, so that each child has one ‘Thank You Mum’…A4 or A3 page. Each child contributes writing about their Mum, including an illustration. Use the contributions in a Sharing Circle.  Make into a fantastic class book to be placed in the Class Library for Silent Reading Time.
  • Ask the children to bring in a photo of their Mum.  Pop the photos on the wall as a display.  Use one of the ‘Thank you Mum for…’ pages for each child to write one thank you down and place is next to the picture of their Mum.
  • Brainstorm and list as a group – all the reasons why we love our Mums. Make this list into a class chart with the title – “30 Uses for a Mum”. List such things as ‘a best friend’, ‘ a hairdresser’, ‘a chef’, ‘a cuddler’, ‘listener’ – this is a really lovely activity – make up a copy for each Mum as well.
