How to use this teaching resource

• Refer to these words during writing sessions – have them displayed on the wall for all to see, or make smaller copies available at writing centres.
• A fun way to use these is to ‘grab’ sentences with ‘said’ out of children’s books and write them down. Children replace the ‘said’ part with different words – which one fits best?
• Children act out the way a sentence can be ‘said’ using the different words. For example ‘The elephant is getting closer’, she screamed, ‘The elephant is getting closer’, she sobbed.
• Brainstorm and list more words for ‘said’ as a class.
• You can make these words smaller size by using the reduction settings on your printer and just printing off black and white copies, these smaller sizes are great for cut and paste activities.
