How to use this teaching resource

  • Classify words into the 5 different senses categories – use the ‘see’,’hear’,’touch’,’taste’,’smell’ word cards as category labels.
  • Use the word cards to label different objects around the room eg…. place the ‘soft’ card on the pillows etc…
  • Use with concept book ‘I Have 5 Senses’
  • Make up some sentence strips – The _______________ feels ________________. The ______________ looks _______________.
  • Brainstorm and list all the things with certain characteristics – eg. Things which feel sticky…. Things which taste salty……
  • Make up a class book ‘What feels soft?’ Each child is given the strip – ‘A ___________feels soft’ and draws and writes a page for the book. (We will try and pop a concept book up for this soon!)
  • Play a game of 5 senses ‘What am I?’ – Use the words to describe an object – I look ___________, I taste ___________, I feel ____________, I smell ________________, I sound _________
  • You can make these words smaller size by using the reduction settings on your printer and just printing off black and white copies, these smaller sizes are great for cut and paste activities
  • When not being used on a wall display, place them in labelled boxes (small wash powder boxes or yoghurt containers work well, or hanging pockets for continued ‘grab and go’ games and writing reference.
