How to use this teaching resource

  • Brainstorm and list animals with scales as a whole class – reptiles and fish – eg.  lizards, snakes, crocodiles, goldfish, bearded dragons, anaconda, whales, stingrays, turtles, dinosaurs.
  • Discuss how animals with scales are cold blooded and lay eggs – this could even be incorporated into the little book – eg.  What has scales?  Cold blooded animals that lay eggs have scales.
  • Don’t forget to make a large class copy (usually the coloured one) to have on hand in the class library – each child completes one page for the class copy.
