How to use this teaching resource

  • 1..Make each set up as a flip chart using spiral binding (add an extra long piece of card to make it stand up) – join sets together to make up words eg. join a consonants set, a vowels set, and another consonants set to practise making cvc words….or a consonants set, vowel graphemes set and another consonant set to make CVVC words – any words can be made if multiple sets are available (please note the ‘silent e’ is a set on its own)
  • 2..Just pick the sets you want to use and staple onto card for children to make up specific phonics related words (as in picture above)
  • 3..Keep laminated loose sets for general reference of phonics sounds and building words.
  • Fabulous to keep a laminated set as just general reference cards when teaching the alphabet / phonics…
  • Features light underlining so children always know the correct way up..(letters sitting on the fence) etc…
  • Includes capital letters so children can make their names..
  • Make smaller versions of customized stapled flip charts for take home sets..
  • Laminate a couple of sets and pop magnets on the back – great for whiteboard, cookie tray work.
  • Children use the general reference sets to sort matching phonics words, theme words, sight words, homophones.

  • The Final Blend Build a Word is not downloading in the VICT font. Otherwise I have been on a dream run resourcing my classroom for our Literacy Blocks. Awesome website … thanks Donna!
