• Ideal to use in a small group when learning about contractions and how they are made by using apostrophes, shortening and combining two words.

How to use this resource:

• Select and download the school font required (full colour or black and white) for your class.
• Print and cut out the strips onto card or thick paper.
• Fold along the dotted line to create a concertina effect.
• Ask the children to fold and unfold the concertina to explore how to shorten and combine two words.
• What comes next? – (ask the children to identify some other contractions and to write them onto the blank template strips provided).
