How to use this teaching resource

  • Basically, this is a fun activity where children spin the parts of speech to make up funny christmas sentences.
  • Use as many or as few of the spinners as you think appropriate for your objectives and age. For example you could just use the adjectives and nouns spinners to make up funny descriptive phrases for children to put together then draw – eg. ‘hairy elves‘, or as complex as ‘hairy elves tip-toe sleepily past the crackers.‘.
  • Using the ‘build a sentence‘ strategy is a terrific way to incorporate this….eg..Hairy
    Hairy elves
    Hairy elves tip-toe
    Hairy elves tip-toe sleepily
Hairy elves tip-toe sleepily past the
Hairy elves tip-toe sleepily past the crackers
  • We also have all the words available in small format so that the children can cut and paste the words into sentences.
  • Copy the spinners onto A3 size for whole class use for modelling.
  • Don’t forget to keep the split-pin quite loose so that the arrow spins well.
  • Children decorate and /or illustrate their silly christmas sentences.
  • BLANK GRAMMAR SPINNERS also now available.

Comments & Reviews

  • I wish the spinners were in black and white so I cpould print them on colored paper and not use so much ink trying to print them as they are! Please make this change.
