Special Needs Sticker Chart

    I have created a sticker chart for the special needs child I assist. The child is in high school and he is still very overwhelmed by all the activity that happens around him.

    We planned this idea together as a reward for staying in the classroom and to do at least 20mins of work in each class.

    He receives a sticker from every teacher in each class if he does the 20mins and extra if he does more. He also has to not leave the class but sit there and wait for the bell.

    When he manages this I will be extremely happy as he would be lucky to be in the class 5mins at the moment and just walks out(Autism) He thinks that he is too smart for these classes.

    I have managed to get him changed into the AEP classes and he is much happier, much quieter, more settled and it is more of a challenging for him. So we are working on the staying in class and working program. That is were the sticker chart comes in.

    He needs to receive 7 stickers a day to receive a 50c canteen voucher and if he manages to fill the card for the week he will receive a certificate and a lunch voucher.

    Then the charts will be put together for the end of term and I will download a new educational game onto his laptop for him to play as a reward for finishing all the tasks asked of him.

    We decided the chart and the rewards together and he is most excited but he did think it was a lot of work to get to the game! But he really wants the game so he has promised to work hard. So far so good.

    Well done Linda,

    I take my hat off to you for this achievement, It is hard to keep a austism child still for too long and what you are doing is great keep up the good work.

    That’s fantastic! Sitting together with the child to work out the rewards in the end, is a great idea. It is involving the child in his own learning.
